Interview
How would you describe your shopping style when it comes to clothing?
“I like edgy clothing, basic garments, some trendy items and I love a good vintage find”
What stores do you often visit for clothes and why?
“I don’t shop often but when I do I like to shop at Fashion Nova, Cider, and local thrift stores. Fashion Nova has the right size pants, Cider has really cool trendy and eclectic clothing that matches my style, and local thrift stores have cheap cool and interesting finds.”
Do you shop alone or with others? Do you actively seek other people’s recommendations while shopping?
“I shop with others, because I love to have a second opinion. Yes, because I enjoy knowing what is in and out when it comes to style because I do not usually keep up with the trends and I like to know what the clothing looks like from an outside point of view”
Do you use your mobile phone while shopping? If so, for what and when?
“Yes, I like to compare prices and I like to keep people informed of what I am looking to buy, especially when I am shopping on my parents money”
What are the most important criteria for you while purchasing clothes?
“I look for clothing that fits well, I can wear it more than once, very versatile, cheap prices”
What are the least important criteria for you while purchasing clothes?
“The brand and other people's opinions of the brand. I do not need to have something that is the “it” brand I am just as happy having an off brand item that people won’t recognize”
Describe a time you may have decided not to purchase merchandise although you liked it. What hindered you?
“The price. I have found that you can find something so similar for way less money or in the end it is just not worth it because trends are always changing so what I like now may not be in style in a month”
What is your favorite brand?
“My favorite brand is Nautica or Levi’s”
Describe your relationship with your favorite brand using one word. Explain why you chose this word.
“Comfortable. I love both of these brands because of comfort. Levi’s are made so well and I have had jeans passed down to me from many generations and the quality is still comparable to a brand new pair. Same thing goes for Nautica, I can think of a swimsuit that my mom passed down to me that looks brand new.”
Are there any brands that you hate? What are the reasons you hate these brands?
“Brandy Melville is one. They claim to be one size but their clothing is designed for an unideal body type that no one has. They also aren’t my style, they are a little too girly for me. Another one is Fila because they are overworn, and they are flat out ugly”
Recommendations
For Cat I have a few recommendations. The first recommendation I have is to try looking at sales in stores. Online shopping is convenient but when you go in store you can find clothing brands you probably didn’t know existed and find your true size in store while trying on the clothing.
Another recommendation I have is to keep an eye open for sales. Sign up for emails and promotional deal notifications from your favorite online stores so you can be ready to purchase items you want while they are on sale.
Another recommendation I have is to try shopping at Poshmark. Poshmark is an online thrift store that allows you to shop from other people's closets online at cheaper prices.
Lastly I recommend trying to shop online retailers that have student discounts. ASOS is my favorite because it has a wide variety of clothing items (has basics, trendy items, vintage like clothing, etc.) at sale prices, that are good quality and has a student discount.
Overall, I recommend creating a closet that is mostly basics, with a few trendy items and vintage items. I also recommend building your jewelry collection because jewelry can dress up and change any outfit. You can add gold jewelry to dress up and class up an outfit but you can also add funky colorful jewelry to make it more eclectic. There are few examples below.
